| Ethiopia is indeed a country of
great contrasts. This becomes apparent when observing its geological
formations, its geographical composition, its flora, fauna, ancient
civilizations and people.
The
scenery is diversely beautiful. Simplified, the landscapes could be divided
into highlands, lowlands, undulating plains, valleys and desert areas. In
reality such a division is not so clear-cut. Mountain ranges plunge to
valley floors.
Rivers, lakes, waterfalls abound. Forests
give way to savanna. Grasslands merge into deserts. You can almost choose
your own scenery! The hilly rugged settings of northern Ethiopia contrast
sharply with green tablelands at the centre and the lush wooded forests of
Illubabor in the western part.
